Mother’s Day is Sunday!
There is nothing more satisfying than being a mom.
Moms encourage their kids to be the best they can be, structure, so they have a framework for growth, comfort when times feel overwhelming and unconditional love throughout their life.
Let’s take a moment this Sunday to remember the moms in our life. It has been an honor to be a mom to my three kids, the greatest joys of my life, and I do miss my amazing mom this year.
One Mother’s Day when my son was in fifth grade, he gave me a card with this poem enclosed.
Kites
I see children as kites.
You spend a lifetime trying to get them off the ground.
You run with them until you’re both breathless…they crash…
they hit the rooftop…you patch and comfort, adjust and teach.
You watch them lifted by the wind and assure them that someday they’ll fly.
Finally, they are airborne, they need more string and you keep letting it out.
But with each twist of the ball of twine, there is a sadness that goes with the joy.
The kite becomes more distant, and you know it won’t be long before that beautiful
creature will snap the lifeline that binds you together and will soar as it is meant to soar, free and alone.
Only then do you know that your job is done.
Mama was my greatest teacher, a teacher of compassion, love, and fearlessness. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of love. ~ Stevie Wonder
