How CRAFT Can Help Families: Meet Jane Macky

I’m excited to share my interview with Jane Macky. Jane shares her program and how CRAFT can help parents support their kids.

She is certified in Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) and founded the We The Village program.

Jane is also conducting a Family Support Research Study. through The National Institute of Drug Abuse or NIDA.

In this interview, Jane shares how a friend struggling with substance use led her to find help.  She eventually found CRAFT, a behavioral change approach.

Jane eventually became a therapist and now works in the field of addiction.

Dr. Meyers, the founder of CRAFT,  found that family members were more motivated to help. They were the ones who were going to show up. The sessions with families were effective.

CRAFT is a protocol that therapists and counselors can learn.  It is also wonderful that peers and family members can learn the approach and help their loved ones.

Jane wants families to have access to the CRAFT resources as the first protocol in the process.

Families can help. They can drive positive change with their loved ones by being connected often through communication skills, reinforcing positive behaviors, and removing reinforcement of harmful substance-using behaviors, and over time, the behavior shifted towards more sobriety and helpful positive behaviors. It doesn’t happen overnight but has been consistently proven to be effective.

There is hope for your son or daughter. CRAFT is an approach that can help create change.

Jane Macky is the CEO & Founder of We The Village. She graduated with a Masters in Mental Health Counseling in 2022 and holds a BA in Philosophy and Psychology from Yale University. In her first job out of college in New York City, her eyes were opened to the struggles of addiction through a colleague and friend, now husband. This chronic issue drew her attention and focused her life’s purpose.

She designed a program from personal experience, paired with the leading evidence-based approach and clinical expertise, while securing multiple government awards and millions of dollars from the National Institute of Drug Abuse to prove the efficacy of their program through clinical trials and advance its viability. The product is now offered direct-to-consumer and funded throughout the state of Colorado.

We The Village is the leading, clinically proven digital program for families seeking treatment entry and recovery for a loved one struggling with a substance use disorder (SUD). The affordable online course and certified coaching program provide people with evidence-based skills and support to achieve predictable improvements in treatment entry and recovery engagement for a loved one struggling with substance use while improving their own physical health, mood (anxiety, depression), and functioning.

Working with even just one concerned family member together, We The Village makes lasting positive changes for the family and helps the family member get their loved one through addiction recovery. And now, We The Village also offers professional training in this leading evidence-based approach used in their program.
